The Standard is a simple, two-tab bookmark that has the unique ability hold a pencil. What more can you ask of a bookmark? Like other designs in my Sewnota line, there is no sewing, stitches, or permanent fasteners.

I work as much as possible with dead stock, repurposed, or off-cut leathers. All colour options are limited stock based on whatever hides I have, so if you like a colour, get it before it's gone.

Product details:

  • Designed and made in Canada of imported leather. Made of various leathers, mostly 2-3 oz cowhide leather. See options for available colours, or selects the "blind box" option to receive a random colour. Some unique, off-cut colours may not be listed, but may be available randomly in the blind box.
  • 2 tabs that hang from a barrel. Barrel is wide enough to hold standard pencils. Will stretch slightly to fit thicker pencils (Tombow, Mitsubishi, etc.). Hot-stamped with the mstlo soft-square mark.
  • Approx. 245 mm (9 3/4") long and 23 mm (7/8") thick when folded. Fits through standard A5 notebooks with end of tabs visible.

 

Sewnota has one simple rule in its design: no sewing. Pronounced like sonata, I designed this line of products for use in workshops where the organizers wanted to have leatherwork, but done in an hour or less. Instead of shrinking the project, I decided to take out a step. While saddle sewing leather makes it unbelievably durable, it is a slow process that wouldn't be done for most people in the 1-hour time frame. I decided if we limited the process to cutting the leather, even an inexperienced maker could probably end up with a finished product. I found I enjoyed the challenge of working with the no-sewing limitation, and went ahead an developed several patterns that can be assembled from only leather. 

I'm now making the Sewnota products available on my shop. The Standard bookmarks are currently only available as finished products. I'm hoping to make custom lettering available soon.
